UFC 1 Hit Wonders

You know you've rooted for them....the 1 hit wonders.  The internet hypes these guys up as the next big thing.....they come in and DESTROY their 1st opponent.  You're then on Dana White's Twitter telling him to push "Insert Name Here" to the moon & put the title on him.  His response = gold

That might have been towards me.

So here we go, I'll give you a list of some familiar faces that weren't around long enough to even make an impact.

Kimbo Slice

"Street Fighting Legend" comes in, beats Houston Alexander in an underwhelming debut & then loses to Matt Mitrione.  Dana White sends him packing.  Highlight of his career was exploding the ear of James Thompson on an EliteXC card & then KO'd by Seth Petruzelli in 13 seconds.

Sokoudjo

Don't get me started on Sokoudjo.  This man KO'd Little Nog & Ricardo Arona in Pride & everyone was hanging from his sac.  He comes to the UFC as the next big thing and gets cut after a 1-2 record.

Marcio Cruz
Marcio Cruz came into the UFC with a 1-0 record and was supposed to be a "gimme" match against Frank Mir.  This was the result

Cruz by TKO
Now Frank Mir was coming back from an injury but I believe because Kanye West didn't come out with his song that he dedicated to Mir is the reason why Mir lost.  After this fight Cruz went 0-2 & was released from the UFC.

 Todd Duffee

When Todd Duffee came onto the scene he was considered the "Next Heavyweight Champ" according to the internet.  He DESTROYED his opponent in :07 and then had a "gimme" match against a man who had no business fighting him.....his name is Mike Russow.
I remember watching this fight & Mike texting me saying "Duffee is going to give this guy Parkinson's"
10 seconds later this happens.
"The Hammerfist of Doom"

Duffee then wanted to star in movies (Never Back Down 2 as a main character) so Dana White released him.  He then went on to lose to Overeem in Dream & wasn't heard from ever again....until he was a late replacement against Philip De Fries 3 years after his last UFC fight & he won by TKO.  Is he considered a 1 hit wonder?  I'm not 100% sure on that but I know one thing....the next fighter I'm going to talk about is going to break my heart.

Yoshihiro Akiyama
"Sexyama" is considered the greatest fighter ever in the history of ever.  After starting his career in Japan (12-1), Sexyama was signed by the UFC & the internet went insane.  The Sexwagon was formed and everyone was on.
His first UFC fight was the opener on one of the greatest UFC cards of all time....UFC 100.  After winning a very close split decision against Alan Belcher he was sidelined with a broken orbital & started doing PR work for the UFC in Japan.  Fast foward 1 year & he's scheduled to fight Wanderlei Silva @ UFC 116.  Wanderlei had to pull out due to injury but Chris Leben stepped up after fighting 2 weeks earlier and shocked the world by submitting Akiyama with 21 seconds left of the fight.

After that fight with Leben, Akiyama was never the same, losing his next 3 fights with now a UFC record of 1-4.  He's still employed by the UFC but I think he's best days are behind him.  If his looks hold up after he's released, I'm sure movies are in his future.

Now it's time for our main event of the evening.

This list was made because I don't care what you did outside of the UFC.  I don't care how many fights you've won outside of the Octagon in front of 72 people in a VFW hall.  The next fighter is a perfect example of this.  Introducing Frank Trigg

Frank "Twinkle Toes" Trigg
Frank Trigg was introduced to the UFC world @ UFC 45 as a challenger for Matt Hughes & his title.
This was the result
As you can see he lost.  After winning his next 2 fights, the UFC decided to give him a rematch against Matt Hughes where he talked so much sh*t that he thought in his head that he was going to win.

UFC 52.
Round starts with both men feeling each other out.  Trigg delivers a knee to the groin that the ref didn't see & jumps on Matt Hughes.  2 minutes in & it looks like he's going to win the title
Goldberg & Rogan are having joygasms over the fact that Trigg's boyhood dream is about to come true.
Then after gassing himself out because he's unsure how to finish a fight when locking in a rear naked choke, this happens

and then this happens

After that Trigg lost a one sided ass beating from GSP & disappeared from the UFC for a couple of years until they decided to bring him back to fight Matt Serra & Koscheck.  He lost both by KO.
UFC record 2-5.

Since then Frank Trigg has been in TNA (Pro wrestling) & posed for playgirl.
Matt Hughes is not impressed.

There's a few more fighters that could have made this list but have 1 fight left on their contracts. If I see Overeem get cut then I will make an RIP thread for him but I won't be happy making it.

Who do you think belongs on this list & why?

MMA Discussion - Diaz vs GSP

What are the odds Diaz fails the drug test?

Diaz vs GSP

Honestly I want Nick to win. Why?  Because I think we need a change and to stir up welterweight division.  Who would GSP face if he lost to Diaz?  There's tons of option.  What will your reaction be if GSP gets TKO'ed in the 2nd?  Mine will be something like this.

Ya never know what GSP will do.  He didn't take down Shields because he was a better striker than Sheilds & didn't want to get into a ground war with him.  Now he's facing someone who has better BJJ & better boxing than him.....should be interesting.  I feel like an upset will happen.

2 Things to look out for......Greasing up & nut shots from GSP.

Then 2 weeks later his post fight drug test will come back and he will get stripped of the belt because Dana White isn't a fan of Diaz.  He already said he will take the title off of him if he isn't a corporate champion.  He's like the Vince McMahon of the UFC.

Hendricks vs Condit

Let me tell you something brother.....Hendricks is ready.  He was ready when he killed Fitch.  He was ready when he beat Koscheck.  He was ready when he knocked out Kampmann.  Condit has a style to beat him, but we haven't seen any weaknesses is his game yet.  I believe it will go to decision with Hendricks winning a split decision but if he knocks out Condit this will be my reaction.

 "You're welcome"

Anderson Silva

Silva VS Bonnar

Not really an ideal matchup for MMA fans. I would've rather seen Silva fight somebody relevant. But it doesn't matter, Silva still made it worth the price of admission. Silva put his back against the cage several times and taunted.

He let Bonnar land a few shots just so the fans could think he Bonnar had a chance.

Bonnar was 14-1 underdog. If I told you somebody used the rocky theme as entrance music, you probably would’ve thought it was Bonnar. But it wasn’t.

Not many doubters left at this point, Silva is the GOAT. On Saturday he proved he can crush a can in a new and exciting fashion.

Some people will still argue that Fedor is the GOAT and I guess I haven't seen enough of his fights to be able to argue against it. but that's partially his own fault for not joining the UFC.

Bonnar gave it his best with a spinning back kick, but it wasn’t enough. After the fight Bonnar said he was hit in the solar plexus and temporarily paralyzed. He started to regain movement shortly after the fight was stopped. He's just lucky he wasn't hit with the 5 point palm exploding heart technique.

Bonnar had never been finished, not even by Jon Jones, so a first round finish was pretty impressive. Bonnar thought so himself.

I was like

I would also like to point out that Silva has a 2nd job. When he isn't training, he judges musical ability on the show X-Factor and goes by the name of Antonio Reed.

Clearly, they are both the same person.

Another brilliant Chael Moment

I thought this quote was so good that I have to share it.

"I am the champion, so I will always have my belt. Will Anderson bring his fake belt? Yeah, he most likely will, and I think it's embarrassing he has to do that. I think what he's doing is he's seeing the influx of new viewers the FOX deal got us, he went out to do his level best to misinform the new viewers into believing he's champion, and he went out and got himself a fake belt. I think it's embarrassing. I would never do that. I think it's shameful. I think it's disrespectful to everything that I've done and I've earned in the sport, but he continues to do it. So I'm going to destroy him once and for all, finally, on July 7, live and only on pay-per-view."

He would never make a fake belt, that's just shameful. I have to hand it to him, that belt looks pretty realistic. I think Anderson probably will bring his belt, lol. Obviously he's forgetting one thing.

You gotta be kidding me

Straight from IMDB

The Fast and the Furious 6 (2013)

Whatever you do, don't let those guys get into a car. (or disobey the laws of physics)
Except that they're in cars disobeying the laws of physics for most of the movie.

Also Gina Carano might be in it.

Also, Free ufc on Cinco de Mayo that actually has a good card and is on a real channel.

p.s.: Who changed the post design layout? it sucks now.

One man on a mission

Blankets, you love them when you’re trying to sleep, but you hate them when you’re trying to watch a fight. Dana White hates them too, that’s why he’s put a man on the case to wipe out those that practice the blanket arts. His first test was Jon Fitch, a promising disciple in the church of blanketology. Everyone expected 15 minutes of snugglefest, but nobody realized Johny Hendricks is “The Blanket Hunter.” After knocking out Fitch in 12 seconds, now a bigger challenge lies in Hendrick’s path. A friend and mentor to Fitch, Josh Koschek was the mentor who led Fitch down the dark path of the blanket. Some say Koschek had no human father, that his father actually was a blanket. Can Hendricks eliminate the head of this coven of blanket warriors, or will he be kept warm and cozy until he loses a unanimous decision? Find out on May 5th. Also available in 3D.

The Ultimate Fighter

Next time on the Ultimate Fighter...

apparently this season is supposed to be good, really effin good, according to Dana White.
mayhem miller vs michael bisping
starts september 21st and its a 2-hour first episode.  they are doing bantamweight and featherweight

the fighters will have to fight to get into the house, also, they are doing away with the wildcard fight. probably because that guy from last season cried about not getting picked because he "fought his heart out" and still lost, which means he sucked.

"If you liked (The Ultimate Fighter 13) wait til you see this season. This season is so good, I'm turning the first episode into two hours. We've never done that. The first episode will be two hours of The Ultimate Fighter. ... This season's really good -- really good." -Lex Luthor
i wonder if mayhem will wamp bisping like hendo did
"that last punch was to shut him up, now lets blow this thing and go home"
