I found this funny - Scott Smith comeback victory

MMA Discussion 07-29-2011 - Fedor vs Hendo

Fedor vs Hendo.
A Small Heavyweight vs a Middleweight. Sounds Fair.
Fedor is known throughout the MMA community as the G.O.A.T. Even though he fought @ heavyweight, he beat everyone who was put in front of him during the time where all the best fighters fought in Pride FC. Even when he came to America he beat Tim Sylvia (who was the #1 HW in the UFC for a few years) and Arlovski (who didn't have a glass chin back then.)

Then he was submitted by Werdum and stopped by Bigfoot which made him re-think his career and decided to make a change. For a man who's a small HW (@ 230......Forrest Griffin walks around @ 240, Rampage is 250) he should have been fighting @ LHW for a majority of his career so he wouldn't have to fight much larger opponents. People said it was because he didn't want to cut weight but in reality it was his pride.

Hendo's attitude has always been "Any weight, any time." Even though he has no personality, he's a pretty good fighter...unless he's fighting Jake Shields & Anderson Silva. And because of those 2 fights.....he will lose to Fedor.

Why Fedor will win - Submissions, Power, Hand Speed
New training, cut weight (10 pounds) so he's in the best shape of his life. He's quicker and didn't lose any power. I can't see this going to decision so he'll probably stop Hendo by submission.

Why Hendo will win - Powerful Right Hand (H-Bomb), Wrestling
The people from StrikeForce call Hendos right hand the "H Bomb."
Can I see this landing? Yes. But I don't think it will be enough to stop Fedor.

Why Fedor won't win - Pressure.
If he doesn't win this people will tell him to Retire. The worst I can see happening is going back to Japan to fight can's and make millions a year......yeah that's horrible.

Why Hendo won't win - He's a Middleweight, Jake Shields Dry Humped him
Not only is Hendo fighting @ HW, he also packed on a few pounds (the guy walks around @ 200) which will make him slower, and Hendo is not known for his gas tank. In the 2nd round of his Anderson Silva fight he was tired after the 1st and then got choked out in the closing minutes of the 2nd. In the Jake Shields fight, after nearly killing him in the 1st round, he was mounted 16 times in the last 4 rounds and took a massive beating in the form of pillow shaped hands from Jake The Snake Shields. Ever since then I can't look @ Hendo the same.

You're winner - Fedor by Submission
I can't really see Hendo going 2 weight classes up to fight one of the greatest HW's of all time and beating him (unless it goes all 3 rounds.) Should be a good fight though but It won't go past the 2nd round.

Marloes Coenen vs. Miesha Tate - Probably Coenen
I don't care who wins this fight....I'm only mentioning this fight because of Miesha Tate.

Other fights
Tim Kennedy vs. Robbie Lawler - Kennedy by Decision
Paul Daley vs. Tyron Woodley - Woodley by Decision - Unless Daley can stop the takedown
Tarec Saffiedine vs. Scott Smith - Saffiedine by TKO
Gesias Cavalcante vs. Bobby Green - Cavalcante by Submission

Game Comparison

I've played these games recently and I was constantly comparing them in my head. So i figured I would do written detailed analysis. They've all had a game in their series named Game of the Year. Add on your own review of game that can be compared. (MGS?, DeadSpace?)

Bioshock (FPS)

Pros- load times are great. play for an hour between loading

Able to hack or convert turrets/cameras to your team.

Research camera makes it fun to fight same enemies over and over. The research camera is probably the best idea in the whole game. You become so cocky that you take the guy’s picture before you kill him. The rewards given by it are very useful. The bonuses give you damage increases against that type of enemy. One of the bonuses actually makes your guy faster, which is helpful in any game ever made.

Able to see enemy’s health, which makes it easy to tell what is effective against them.

Can save anywhere, anytime.

You can use weapons and special elemental powers to cause damage.

Cons- weapon upgrades are limited (only 1 per category per weapon - damage, capacity, etc.) and power upgrades are not quantified

Money can’t be used for weapon upgrades and wallet can be maxed out.

Can’t look through sights on weapons

Can’t control inventory (can hold specific amounts of each type of ammo, but can’t discard 1 type to focus on collecting preferred types. Can hold predetermined amount of first aid kits. Can’t sell extra stuff. Many items are left scattered around the floor because you don't have room.)

Not a lot of weapons – just 1 of each type

No bonus games after you finish the game, or incentive to play it again.

Not very much customization on your character. My best end game character will be very similar to anyone else’s (same weapons and abilities). At the end of the game you’ll have a very good all around character. I prefer to have a character that excels at my play style. (ie. I don’t need that drill hand, I’m not gonna melee when I have full ammo for every gun)

Other – Some extra areas to explore, but certainly not free roam. Have to follow a certain path to complete the game, but can make choices for multiple endings.

An area is never completely clear of enemies, 1 or 2 always come back when you leave the room, but you can hear them talking so you are aware of them.

No teammates that fight with you, but no escort missions either.

What makes the game unique - right hand uses weapons, left hand uses special powers like lightning, fire, ice, or telekinesis. You also get passive abilities that you can change, although most of them are mediocre.

Research Camera is cool.

The little girls you find are so creepy and you can sort of kill children in this game, though it’s not shown on screen. You will have a moral dilemma each time you have to choose whether to save or harvest them. If you try to get the evil ending in this game, you will feel evil when you finish it.

RE4 (over the shoulder camera)

Pros - Load times are good. Decent size areas between loading

No hacking or lock picking, but there are puzzle minigames for you to solve and shooting ranges during the game that give you money.

Quicktime button press events give a good change of pace from shooting guys.

Enemies react differently to where you shoot them. After hitting certain spots, the enemy stumbles and you’re able to do a knockdown move that can hit anyone nearby. Including a suplex that explodes their head.

Good selection of weapons even within their class(handgun, rifle, shotgun, magnum) with different advantages for each.

Money can be used to upgrade weapons.

Weapon upgrades are very detailed. Multiple upgrades per weapon per category and bonuses for upgrading a weapon in all categories completely.

Can sell items that you don’t want and completely control your inventory based on total space taken up by items. No max amount of any items. Can even have multiple guns of the same type (ie. 2 magnums).

Bonus games, new guns with infinite ammo and costume changes unlocked after finishing the game, also can replay the game with everything you finished the game holding. Bonus game completion adds more guns to the normal game.

Areas can be completely cleared of enemies for easy searching.

The story is pretty good, good enough that my wife watched me play the whole game. The main character has a personality and actually speaks, from hitting on girls to being cocky as hell to bad guys.

Cons – would be nice to see enemy’s health, especially on bosses

The camera can be a little tough to get used to, your character’s head blocks your view sometimes.

There are parts of the story where you have to escort helpless NPCs.

Only 1 ending and you have to go through the story in order. No free roam.

You can control your weapons very well, but the defensive gear is lacking.

Other – Can only save at typewriters and at the end of sections, but they are frequently found and you can save at them more than once.

Some of the death scenes are pretty gruesome. You can be completely decapitated by a chainsaw, or have your face burned down to the skull by acid.

What makes the game unique – It does everything so well, nothing really disappoints. Even the difficulty scales the entire game, so that it’s pretty challenging throughout. Many times there is a smarter solution to fights that make them easier. Upgrading your weapons is very fun and starting the game with your nearly fully upgraded weapons is a great reward. This game begs to be played through a second time.

You can’t move while shooting. This is a staple of the series and adds to the tension. The enemies aren’t fast, if you could move it would be too easy.

It’s the only zombie game where you can hit a backflip on a jetski, and be called a pervert for looking up a girl’s skirt. This game's got everything.

Fallout 3/New Vegas (3rd person/ 1st person)

Pros – multiple endings that are nearly opposites of each other. You can be the good guys or bad guys or someone in between. You have complete free roam to walk anywhere you want. Literally miles to explore in any order you want.

Extreme customization of your character that allows you to play to your strengths.

Can save anywhere, anytime.

Can see enemy’s health.

Radar for detecting enemies.

Able to hack/lockpick/repair weapons/ talk people into things /make ammo based on your attributes.

VATS targeting system for turn based fighting or use your own fps skills using the sights.

Can choose teammates who all give different advantages

Complete control of your inventory based on total weight of items being carried. Can sell items you don’t want.

Besides the near infinite types of weapons, you can also equip tons of different armor for your head and body to increase defense.

You can switch between 3rd person or first person view with a button push.

Cons – Frequent loading; pretty much every time you go into a building and sometimes multiple times in a building. Loading times seem to get worse with each DLC.

Difficulty doesn’t really change. Your character can become extremely over leveled and able to kill bosses in 1 or 2 hits. Maybe not a bad thing, but the game isn’t as challenging at the end as it is in the beginning.

Story isn’t great, it’s easy to lose track of with the dozens of side quests you can do. Although they do get some good voice acting. (Liam Neeson)

No rewards for finishing the game. Nothing to entice you to play through again. Why would you want to start over with base stats when your character is unstoppable. It’s like when superman wanted to become human.

Other - guns don’t have many upgrades, but can be repaired to better working condition for max damage. In New Vegas you can add a scope or silencer to some guns.

Enemies don’t rush in behind you after a cutscene. If you clear a building to reach a switch that is critical to the mission, the building is still clear after you press the switch.

What makes the game unique – Character customization is fantastic and free roam gives you complete independence. This game has options on top of options.

The targeting system is a great idea for FPS games. you can target specific areas on an enemy to lock onto. It can almost play like an RPG with turn based attacks.

Depending on what choices you make and how your character is created, 2 playthroughs of this game could have totally different experiences.

You haven’t exploded a guy until you’ve played this game. Shooting an enemy's head clean off in slow motion is satisfying and sometimes humorous.

I wasn't sure everyone would get this one since I dont think I ever posted teh bear grylls piss drinking meme.
so i posted it below, i guess i'll make it a future meme.  its all based on bear grylls show about being addicted to drinking his own piss and how its affected his life, also survival in the jungle

Dark Souls again

Was reading some of the interviews with some of the people that worked on the game. I found them interesting.

by GamesTM, March 2011

"Miyazaki wants the players to experience tens of thousands, or millions of deaths."
"The combat remains largely unchanged from Demon's Souls, while the team concentrates on improving the elements of role-playing and exploration."
"You are no longer [able] to pick a character class from the start. Instead you are allowed to equip any armour or weapon you like, prising the potential for customisation wide open."
"There are over 100 weapons, and players will be able to cycle through them in real time. A wider range of magic spells is also available."
"Miyazaki is careful to point out that the game isn't ttruly open-world as some media outlets have reported, but it will be less compartmentalised than Demon's Souls. There's still a hub - a campdire within a ruined castle - but you'll be able to leave through your choice of exits and work through the interconnected levels. We're told that you'll be able to travel to any location you can see in the distance."
"Secret routes and locations have also been discussed. From Software inadvertently reveals one to us in a place aptly named Trap Road"
"Player death does not have him transform into a ghost, but instead he finds himself in an alternate part of the area and discovers a tunnel to a secret location. Miyazaki is keen to point out the tunnel leads to an even harsher environment as punishment for slipping off the rail and dying."
"We are trying to provide an experience one or two steps ahead of what we did for Demon's Souls."
"Dark Souls introduces mid-level bosses that can pursue you in unprecedented ways, leaping over walls and climbing buildings to reach you."

by Playstation Official Magazine, March 2011

"The heads up display looks nearly identical so guessing button configuration will be similar."

"There will be much more role-playing and exploring as, unlike its predecessor, Dark Souls worlds
won't be broken down into smaller levels but exist as much larger open worlds."

"...we're able to leap down from heights onto huge enemies to unleash powerful strikes on them. Should our timing be perfect, that is."

"In terms of story, Miyazaki shed very little, but we know it involves knights and vampires (and that we could assume both these roles)."

"When speaking of the game's setting, Miyazaki often referred to "chaos," the differences that cause it, and overcoming those differences to defeat it."

Miyazaki quoted as saying, "I'll create the games I want to create; games I feel users will enjoy. That's what I do best."

The staff at From working on Demon's Souls is largely comprised of individuals who also worked on Demon's Souls. They feel a "passion" to "achieve the best."

More Dark Souls

As I find more things about the game I will continue to post..

Regarding the Software

  • Official title is "Dark Souls"
    • Before it was decided on this name, the developers intended to name it "Dark Ring," in reference to the aura that emanates from the cursed ring of the main character.
The name was discarded when the developers were made aware of it being rude slang in Britain.
  • Scheduled for release in 2011
  • Jointly Developed by From Software and Namco Bandai Games
    • In Japan, the title is a Playstation 3 exclusive and will be published by From Software
    • Internationally, Namco Bandai Games will be the publisher, and will make the title available to both Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
    • From Software has stated that they are solely responsible for game content.
    • Namco Bandai Games is confident with this arrangement.

Development Concepts

  • High degree of difficulty. The objective is to give players a challenge that is rewarding when met.
  • Difficulty as something anyone can overcome through observation, strategy and choice
  • Aiming to provide freedom for the player character
  • Demon's Souls "learn from your mistakes" theme remains the base for the game.
  • Implementation of a seamless map, that was not realized in Demon's Souls
  • The analogy for the game is: "Something spicy, but that anyone can enjoy"
  • Whilst happy that the game had international appeal, no special intentions to cater to their tastes
    • From Software does not feel confident designing based on market data, so they will instead compete by creating a great game.
  • Players will die repeatedly, From Software bets its pride on it.

General Concepts

DarkSoulsPlayer.png

  • The game revolves around the appearance of the Undead, that will gradually ruin this world.
  • The game world of medieval fantasy is represented in three main themes: "King & Knight", "Death and the Abyss," "Flame of Chaos"
  • Exploration of the world will be vital and, thanks to a seamless map, accessible by simply walking.
  • No maps in hand, the player will have to rely on descriptions and observation.
  • The game will feature complex environments, with tricks, traps and significant height differences.
  • Bonfires scattered throughout the world will serve as starting points/checkpoints and as oases for recovery.
    • The player will be able to rest by the bonfire to replenish Est and spells, but doing so will also respawn normal enemies throughout the world.
    • Extinguished bonfires must be lit (touched) to serve as a checkpoint.
    • Bonfires can also be strengthened, by offering up some of the player's humanity, which will increase the number of Esflasks and spells equipped.
  • Humanity is a new concept, and is represented by a small flame in the top left corner of the HUD. Its mechanics is not discussed in detail yet.
    • Humanity can be increased by killing Evil Spirits (invading players), or by invading and killing a player in another world.
    • Humanity is decreased upon death, with one chance to retrieve it, if the player can reach the bloodstain where death occured.
    • Dying without possessing humanity will result in the message 'You Hollowed' being displayed, instead of the usual 'You Died'.
  • The game will feature different motions and traits for weapons, as well as a great variety of magic and items, encouraging the player to find their own and unique playstyle.
    • The motion will affect the speed and rest of each blow, based on parameters such as the player's strength and ability.
    • Tactics such as bypass armor should also be parameter-dependent.
  • One of the spells players will be able to cast will transform themselves into iron form which mitigates much more damage, with the drawback of decreased movement speed.
  • The Iron Knight is a powerful NPC, whom players will be able to summon at certain points.
  • The expected playtime is 1.5 or 2 times that of Demon's Souls, with a significant increase in magic and items.
  • Whilst Demon's Souls had 40 types of enemies, Dark Souls will include close to 100 of them. Enemies will be able to chase players up stairs and ladders, but can be kicked down.
  • Story will not impose itself upon the player, but it is present. The game world is fragmented, but opportunities for deeper story information are available to players who search.

Important Differences with Demon's Souls

  • All defense has been lowered, and attack power has increased, hence the introduction of the iron form magic.
  • No more munching on grass. Grass has been removed and instead Est can be collected at the fires and carried in bottles. However the amount of bottles a player can carry will be limited. They want to discourage reckless play followed by munching, and instead ask the player to tread with caution.
  • There will be no "origin" selection for the main character, however the demo presented the following classes: Soldier, Knight, Witch, Pyromancer, Solaire of Astora, Black Knight.
  • No Soul Form.
  • World Tendency is not present as a server median, but a similar effect can be controlled by players online.
  • The Story and World are not that of Demon's Souls.
  • There won't be 5 differentiated worlds as presented in Demon's Souls.
  • The weapon upgrade system will be easier to understand.

Enemies

This page contains a list of known enemies for the game. We will update as more information is revealed. An important point for Demon's Souls veterans: previously, an enemy who had noticed you would stop following you if you left its vicinity. Dark Souls will not have such a system, and the enemy will chase you until one of you is defeated.

Large Enemies

White Dragon

A giant dragon without scales, that looks dignified and sparkles.
Dragon_Art.jpg

Wyvern

(Pseudonym: Hellbound)
A creature expected to have a role similar to that of the Red Dragon of Demon's Souls, and be living in the Anore Rondo area, thus confronting the player more than once.
Dragon.jpg

Big Knight

Seen wielding an impressive mace near a sacred statue inside the Undead Church, its design is comparable to Demon's Souls Tower Knight.
1on1.jpg

Belfry Gargoyle

(Aka Maneater 2.0)
This mid-boss awakens from its slumber at the bell tower, on top of the Undead Church, to attack the player with a bronze spear and shield. After its health is halved, a doppleganger will appear and will start attacking the player with deadly fire breaths.

Firebreath.jpg

Lesser Demon

(Pseudonym: Troll)
A large monstrous figure wielding an axe in the Undead Bourg area.
Co-op.jpg

Jirougumo

(Real name)
First seen in the official Preview, this monster is half-spider half-woman, and is engulfed in flames. It will attack players with a black sword when low in life. A great deal of speculation over whether she will be actually naked means this enemy is already taking player victims before release.
external image dcb92b1cfd91b16a.JPG

Mask

(pseudonym)
First seen in the official Preview, this monster would seem to be the physical manifestation of the body of a mask affected by magical influence.
external image 7111f55711436c55.JPG

Skull

(pseudonym)
First seen in the official Preview, this skeleton monster is staring at what would seem to be the fire of a human soul in its hand. The previews' lingering on the figure hints at this being of great importance, and is perceived as the game's primary enemy.
external image 9900912e55e28915.JPG

Undead Dragon

(Pseudonym)

zombiedragon.jpg

Flame Boss

(Pseudonym)
An imposing fire based boss with many limbs keeping in line with the Flame/Chaos theme.
fireboss.jpg

Giant Wolf

(Pseudonym)
A very large wolf who resides in the Sacred Sword's Tomb region of the world. It is possible the player will have to face this guardian as a test of worthiness.

Small Enemies

Egg-Burdened

It is speculated that this monster is the result of a human body that was used by monsters to lay eggs
Pods.jpg

Undead Knight

It would seem these are the magically reanimated corpses of dead knights
Undead.jpg

Sewer Rats

Of different sizes and shapes, these mice are likely affected by the curse and are seen attacking players in groups. The big rat has an axe lodged in its left eye, from an earlier encounter, and is most likely blind.
Rat.jpg

The Dead

(Pseudonym)
These enemies, who look human but have no eyes, attack players in numbers and with shields and spears.
Phalanx.jpg

Mecha Boar

(Pseudonym)
With a horn attack so strong it would seem to defeat the player in a single strike, this enemy resembles a boar and seems to relentlessly attack the player. Encountered in the Undead Parish, guarding the church steps.
Boar.jpg

The Black Knight

This enemy is clad in fine armor, wielding a remarkable sword that seems to be a Great Sword.
Knight.jpg

Fat Guardian

(Pseudonym)
This enemy wields a gigantic hammer, and is accompanied by a smaller armor clad npc wielding a big spear.

Online

Known Features

DarkSoulsOnline.png

Bloodstains
When you touch it, you can see a replay of another player's death.

Illusions (White Phantoms)
You will catch glimpses of other players who are in the same place at the same time.

Messages
You can read messages left by other players. You can create messages by combining pre-defined text. There is also an element of deception to this, as the game will encourage you to leave purposefully deceptive messages to gain an advantage over other players.

World Events
Certain events triggered, in the players world, will affect that area of other online players. For example, the church bell chime can be heard in other worlds when in range.

Oath System
There is an Oath System. When the player explores the world and plays the game, there will be certain discoveries which allow the player to make an oath to a person or on a specific subject. Some of these discoveries can be pretty rare. When an oath is made, it determines the players position on that topic, and will impact the interaction with other players online. This could mean that taking an oath for something could make you allies with another player, or deadly enemies. The Oath system is not an all encompasing fixed alliance like a MMO guild; instead it should be thought of as a system which serves as a guide for active roleplaying.

Player vs Player
Players can invade other worlds with the objective to kill the main player of that world.
There will also be times where a player may be tasked with recovering an item that another player is holding.

Cooperative play
Players can be called into other's worlds, to aid their summoner. Players can also light beacons for other players, and leave behind recovery items to help their fellow players.

Gravelord
Players can invoke the power of Gravelord, which makes random player's worlds harder (black world tendency), in the affected area. Upon finding the Gravelord markings, the affected player can invade and kill the caster, to revert the world back to normal.
The benefits of the Gravelord summon is unclear at the moment.

*It is to be noted that although online play will be a large part of the full gameplay experience, From is developing the game with offline players in mind as well to ensure that they can also complete the full game. Demon's Souls was similar in this respect.

Important Differences with Demon's Souls

  • Due to the lack of dedicated servers, there will be no World or Soul Tendencybecause there is no Soul Form.
  • There are no regions: Play is global
  • Objective of generating a variety of interactions by creating "reciprocal role play"
    • It seems there are PvP options besides Invasions

    Places

    DarkSoulsBeacon.pngCamp

The camp is your base or home-point. A safe area where you can rest and likely where you will level up by interacting with the Saint. It has been revealed that the bonefires act as return points from your deaths, and that you can chose which fire to activate by praying near them. It is confirmed that, as was the case with the Nexus, you will see the white ghosts of other players who are in the same area.

    Areas

    Anore Rondo

    (アノール・ロンド)

A field reminiscent of Demon's Souls Boletaria and Latria worlds, the theme is inspired by high fantasy of a "king and knight" setting.

    DarkSoulsPendulum.pngTrap Road: Pendulum

An iron tower of remarkable height

    external image 4723fe993179c128.JPG

    Undead Church

Similar to Demon's Souls Latria and its church area, this field is expected to feature enemies such as gargoyles and other mystical creatures.

    DarkSoulsAnore.png

    Castle Lands

An area where the lower class citizens lived, it seems to be overrun by creatures

    DarkSoulsFortWalls.pngAqueducts

Near the fort's walls, with the important function of carrying water to the castle. The area seems to be inhabited by a Hellbound that is expected to fulfill a role similar to that of Demon's Souls Red Dragon.

    DarkSoulsSewers.pngSewers

This area, that carries water away, is inhabited by repulsive, giant rats.

    DarkSoulsBlackForest.pngBlack Forest

Another fantasy-inspired setting, this forest of dim lights and vision limited by mist is believed to also have open areas where players will battle.

    DarkSoulsSwordTomb.pngThe Sacred Sword's Tomb

A cementery to many knights, enshrined within it lies a legendary sword. It is expected this relates to the main story.

    Snow Ruins

An ancient cave, covered in ice due to the passing of time. This area seems to be inspired by the "Death and the Abyss" theme mentioned by the Director.

    DarkSoulsRedRuins.pngDemon Altar

It would seem these ruins were used for some kind of religious ceremony in the distant past. The environments point towards the Flame of Chaos theme.
