UFC 129 GSP vs Shields

It's Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even though I'm a GSP nutthugger, I've been waiting for this match since Shields won the Welterweight Title in Elite XC. Yes it was about 2007/2008 and I thought to myself "Wow, this guy could actually give GSP a tough time." Then when I started watching more of his matches, I realized that I was catching up on my sleep. But after watching the Hendo fight, I figured that Shields has a better shot @ winning this than anyone right now.

Why GSP wins this - Striking, Wrestling, Cardio, Plays it safe
I've always said this....GSP will beat you for a full 5 rounds so you'll never want to fight him again.

All around, he is the complete fighter. His stand up & wrestling are amazing and his cardio is even better. Everyone criticizes his style because after a few rounds he does play it safe, but its usually after he's made one of your eyes look like a vagina.

Why Shields wins this - Blanket Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, Durability


I'm not going to deny that Shields has a (boring) style that works. In his last 3 fights, he has mounted his opponent 16 times. Though he never came close to finishing those fights. Still the judges look @ it as points. Also he's been rocked in a few of his fights but seems to recover pretty quick. Also people bring up the time GSP was in a grappling tournament and lost to a guy in less than a minute, which Jake Shields beat in the next round. Jake has also finished 7 out of his last 10 opponents, with 6 coming by submission.

"Kick, Punch, It's all in the mind."

That's right, it sucks. When he throws a kick, his hands go strait down. When he throws his punch.....he doesn't use his body, he just uses his arms. It's what I like to call "Arm Punching" which is like getting a slap to the face. Also his cardio is usually an issue with his weight cut. He'll drop a ton of weight before the fight and never seems to recover for the next night. From there he puts himself in very bad spots.

We'll probably have to hear from a few people that GSP is boring and they can't wait till he loses.
Also the fact that Bobby Lashley is the greatest heavyweight of all time. Mike and I will take our main event shot, and watch GSP beat the hell out of Shields for 4 out of 5 rounds. Yeah I'm giving Shields a round.

Machida vs Couture - Machida by Split Decision

I feel bad saying Randy Couture will lose..... I mean who doesn't love Randy Couture? He's awesome. But win or lose....he said that this is his last fight and I think he's going to come up short.


Why Machida will win - Counter Striking, Feints, Takedown Defense, Drinks his own piss.
Side step Side Step, see an angle, attack.
Side Step Side Step, guy throws a punch, Attack.
That's Machida's style.....and it works. Also, who was the last person to take down Machida? I can't remember if in the 1st Rua fight if he was taken down, though I know Soukodjou took him down and got reversed in 2 seconds. He's worked on his wrestling and his game is pretty much the same, so all he needs to do is find one opening and connect.

Why Couture will win - Wrestling, Works the Cage, Dirty Boxing
Watch a Couture fight....he bullies you against the cage, hits you with some dirty boxing, then takes you down. You can see that for 3 rounds if it goes to decision. Also for being in his late 40's, he can still take you down (he took down Brock Lesnar, and Big Nog) with little to no effort.

Why Machida won't win - Dirty Boxing
Couture's Specialty. If you give Machida distance, he will win this fight on points or TKO you. If you take away that....he's pretty much screwed.

Why Couture won't win - He's KO material, Outside Striking
Watch his final 2 matches against Liddell. Liddell used his striking and weird looping angles to catch Couture off guard. It's something I see Machida using this fight. Also he doesn't want to stand with Machida.

The X Factor - Judging
That's right baby....Cecil Peoples is probably going to be a judge. And you know who he loves the most.

Aldo vs Hominick - Aldo by TKO
Should be quick, fast and easy. Hominick will have a few bright spots in this match before getting TKO'ed late in the 1st. They are only giving him this title fight because he's Canadian and loves to strike.

UFC 129 Prelim and some main card fights

Because the addition of Big Chris @ Mikes place for this UFC, this has turned into the biggest UFC to date. I'll have to split this discussion into 3 parts.
First up lets talk about these 3 fights.

Nate Diaz vs. Rory MacDonald
Benson Henderson vs. Mark Bocek
Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Jason Brilz

Nate Diaz vs Rory MacDonald - Diaz by Submission
In a weight class in which most fighters cut 15-20 pounds to make the 170 limit, Nate Diaz weighs in with his jeans, and boots on. Rory MacDonald is a dangerous opponent for anyone, and is pretty dangerous on the ground but is still relatively young (he's 21) and still has time to grow....but Saturday is not looking to good for him.

Why Diaz wins this - Submission, Striking, Epic Staredowns, He's a Diaz
In most of the fights we've seen him win and lose, he does one thing great....He makes you play his game. He peppers you with little shots until you start trading with him, and then he starts to unload. Then his opponent makes a mistake and it's usually lights out.Why Rory MacDonald wins this - Wrestling, BJJ, Canadian
He's fighting in his home country and his wrestling is pretty good, which is Nate Diaz main weakness. He came close to beating Carlos Condit and then Condit reversed and beat MacDonald in the final seconds of round 3.

Why Diaz will lose - Wrestling Defense
I see this as his only weakness in this fight. For every match he's lost (all decisions) in the UFC, they have came from all better wrestlers than him. They couldn't finish him and every match was a 29-28 (either split or UD.) It just takes him a while to figure out how to start neutralizing their wrestling and by then its the 3rd round.

Why Rory MacDonald will lose - Youth Factor, Pressure, doesn't like to get hit.
Diaz will hit you 75 times in the 1st round. Macdonald will not like that. Also he's fighting for his country.....and all his cornermen will keep saying is "You have to win this....for Canada." MacDonald's response will be "I fight for me, I win for me! FOR ME!"
Too bad this will end just like Rocky 4....

This match will go back and forth until MacDonald takes Diaz down in the 3rd round and finds himself trapped either in a triangle or a guillotine choke. Diaz then will tell Joe Rogan that he trains with the toughest fighters in the world "Nick Diaz, Gilbert Melendez, Jake Shields" and come "train @ his gym, 209 Stockton baby."


Benson Henderson vs. Mark Bocek - Benson by TKO
Even though these 2 are evenly matched up on paper, Bendo has better striking and a very crafty ground game. Bocek keeps telling people that he will submit Bendo because people have been choking him the wrong way? This guy is the same guy that got choked out by Mac Danzig. Bendo will take this fight into the 3rd round, escaping a few submission attempts until getting Bocek in a very bad spot which the ref will have to stop the fight. I also think Benson could get off his guillotine choke here, but I believe Bocek is probably training on protecting his neck, so the TKO is more likely.

Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Jason Brilz - Vlad by Split Decision
I flipped a coin here because these 2 fight the same, fought the same people, and all have split decision wins from a majority of them. This will be the time to go get a drink, slice of pizza, and take a piss.

I've read some stuff about this game in game informer and it looked cool.  It comes out May 10th.  I was reading what i could find online it and it sounds like the jaun.  It looks and sounds just like borderlands.  First person shooter, you can play offline single player or online multiplayer, you can jump in and out of friends games.  There is a twist though, when you are playing online, the enemies are other human players.  so you have objectives to complete and other players are fighting you on your way to them.  Its almost an MMO, although there will be different lobbies, so there will be a certain limit to the number of players in each "world".

i wanted to find more info about character creation, but it seems like info is limited.  Basically there are 3 main body types for characters.  agile, medium, and heavy.  agile guy is very fast, but can hold less equipment and take less damage.  heavy is strong and slow. medium is a mix (obvious)

there are different classes you can pick, i'll just paste a quote from the article since it explains it pretty well. "But even more important than that are the abilities. Every time the player levels up, they can buy one new ability, in one of five different categories: soldier, medic, operative, engineer, or all-purpose. Each of these can only be used when you’re playing as a particular class, but remember, you’ll be able to change classes at any time while you’re in a mission." (hopefully they have a really good melee guy)

they also have a new thing called teh SMART system.  smooth movement across random terrain.  basically it turns your guy into assassins creed and you can jump over stuff by holding in a button.

also, its made by bethesda, who make some great stuff.  they are real good at combining rpg elements to shooters.

Nate Diaz vs Rory MacDonald should be an all out war, and hopefully they show these 2 fights,
Claude Patrick vs. Daniel Roberts & Pablo Garza vs. Yves Jabouin. Probably will show them if the these fights & the main card fights end quickly.

Also Mayhem Miller signed with the UFC and will be fighting on July 2nd against Aaron Simpson. I'll pick my winners soon. I'm having a hard time picking between Couture and Machida.

How Effin Stupid are you? Issue #7

1) I was at a 1 year old’s birthday party on Saturday. There was a mom and her son both wearing Eagles Jerseys. I thought it was a little strange since it’s not even close to football season, besides that they may not even play this year. Then I noticed something even better, they were both #5. That’s right McNarb. That’s the best thing you can think of to wear?

This one is just for lolz. I’m not passing any judgment about the intelligence of this person. I found this to be hilarious, and it made my day. There was a birthday card at the party that was on the fridge, it was on regular lined paper and folded in half, nothing fancy. It must’ve been given on the actual birthday which was Wednesday. The card was written by a mentally handicapped person. It read “Happy Bathday Hallie.” What an effort, he came damn close too.

2) Me and a couple of guys from the office went out to eat at a local place. We were a little disappointed that the normal buffet area was closed, but we proceeded to order food anyway. I went with the Wednesday lunch special. I figured that would be pretty safe bet. The other guys ordered and we sat down. 10 minutes later, a lady comes out and says they don’t have what I ordered, they won’t have it until tonight. How do you not have the Wednesday lunch special and why did it take you so long to realize it? I switched my order to a cheesesteak. They bring out the other guys’ food. The guy who ordered a chicken cheesesteak with lettuce and onions gets a cheesesteak with onions. He sends it back and they bring it back out as a chicken cheesesteak with onions. Still couldn’t get lettuce. Probably not going there again.

3) I can’t tell if this one is stupid funny or stupid dumb. We made a CD of tv themes to listen to at work. One lady was remarking that she remembered a lot of them because it’s so much easier to memorize things when they’re set to music. So she says, “Maybe you could teach me computers in a song.” I couldn’t stop laughing. Then a guy walks back and says, is this some kind of radio station that only plays TV themes? I told him it was and he was happy with that.
