“I Took an Arrow in the Knee” is a catchphrase from the role-playing video game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim which inspired the snowclone phrasal template “I used to X, then I took an arrow to the knee.”

Origin

In The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the town guard non-player characters (NPCs) have several stock lines they will repeat when the player walks near them, including a bewildered statement about “curved swords”, a patronizing statement about “sweetroll” theft, and the melancholy confession “I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow in the knee.” The restating of such a specific story over and over again by so many different guards caused it to be noticed by players, who then proceeded to post about it in gaming forums and image boards. Along with the game itself, the video below helps give the idea that almost every guard in Skyrim became a guard due to the life altering results of receiving an arrow to the knee.

MMA Discussion 12-28-2011 - GFY's MMA Awards & UFC 141

Sorry for the hiatus. Year End @ work is always interesting.
I haven't made one of these in a while and I'm off till January 3rd so I'm trying to get as much blog / post time in until then.

GFY's 2011 MMA Awards
I watch a ton of MMA in my free time and I've always wanted to do this. I'm trying to include other promotions into this, but it seems like UFC Fighters (like it probably will every year) will win a majority of the awards.
If you disagree please feel free to flame the shit out of me.
Also I'll have the reason why I think certain categories got the winner I chose.


Fighter of the Year - Jon Jones
Won the LHW Title. Fought & Won 4 times in this year (finishing all of his opponents / 3 who were former champions).

MMA's Most Valuable Fighter - GSP
If you look @ the buyrates for PPV's, whatever show he was on, got over 750,000 buys.

Feud of the Year - Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen
Even though these 2 haven't fought since 2010, Sonnen did his best to keep the feud alive.

Most Improved - Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone
I didn't think he'd adjust well in the UFC, but he's 2 wins away from a title shot.

Best on Interviews - Chael Sonnen

Most Overrated - Cro Cop
He's past his prime but they kept talking about him like it was 2005 again.

Most Underrated - Luke Rockhold (Strikeforce MW Champion)

Promotion of the Year - UFC
Strikeforce is slowly merging with the UFC, & Bellator, K-1, and Dream are the only other "major" MMA promotions in the world.

Best Movie with an MMA Fighter - Warrior
Stephan Bonner, Rashad Evans, Yves Edwards all are in this movie.
Even Kurt Angle (who claims he could be an MMA fighter). Oh it's true, it's damn true.
But the movie was pretty good.

Worst Movie with an MMA fighter - Never Back Down 2
Todd Duffee & Lyoto Machida. NUFF SAID! Movie is bad...horrible is more like it.
Eddie Bravo is in the movie which was a highlight of the film but then became ass again.



UFC 141 Fight Predictions
Main Event: Lesnar vs Overeem
I'm picking Ubereem by 2nd round TKO....but if this goes into the 3rd round, I see Lesnar taking this by decision (5rd). Ubereem's gas tank is questionable.....and I can only seeing him winning this if the fight ends before the 3rd round. Lesnar is coming back from a 14 month hiatus and surgery. Plus he turtles up after getting hit in the face. Also I witnessed him back in 2004 lose to Eddie Guerrero via Froggy Splash. R.I.P. Eddie.

Co-Main Event
Donald Cerrone vs Nate Diaz - Cerrone by Decision
Easily should be the fight of the night with Cerrone winning by split decision. I would choose Nate here but after seeing him lose decisions to Rory Macdonald and Stun Gun, I'm always worried about which Nate is coming to fight. This will be Nate's 4th fight this year and Cerrone's 5th. I see it as a back & forth war with Cerrone winning the last 2 rounds.

Ultimate Fantasy Matchup

As you know, the fantasy football superbowl is this weekend. I'd just like to give you an overview of 2 of the players that helped get their teams there. These 2 players are fantasy football juggernauts.

David Akers
Akers broke the 49ers’ record for most points scored in a season (now 143 points). The record was formerly held by the 49ers’ Hall of Fame wide receiver, Jerry Rice. When you're breaking Jerry Rice's records, you're doing something major. He also kicked a 55-yard field goal against the Dallas Cowboys, setting a record for the longest field goal made at Candlestick Park. He also banged a 59 yarder against the saints. No big deal.

Rob Gronkowski
The greatest currently playing TE. He broke the record for most TDs by a TE in the 13th week of the season. He's still raising the bar. He has more scores this season than any WR. He's had multiple TDs in 3 games. He also had the 1st rushing TD by a TE since 2006. Then he did it again a few games later.

Both of these guys have produced big time this season, which leads to my conclusion. The only thing left to determine is which is the best. Which you will see this weekend, in a 1 on 1 showdown. I'm goin all in, cause i'm just crazy enough to do it.

Israeli man pwns facebook

Facebook disabled the account of Israeli entrepreneur Rotem Guez because he runs a business called the Like Store, where he sold Likes to advertisers. Guez countered by suing Facebook for deleting his accounts on the social network. Facebook countered with its own cease and desist letter. Guez didn't respond to Facebook's demands. Instead, he legally changed his name to Mark Zuckerberg.

What a genius move, the news can write that facebook is suing mark zuckerberg and make a huge deal about it. this guy will get a ton of publicity.
