MMA Discussion: 7/16/2012

Fitting, isn't it?
So because Brad's back I'll talk about it.
Chael Sonnen won.
Well he won the 1st round.
Also that knee was aimed @ his head.  No doubt about it but when Anderson threw the knee this was my reaction.

I'm glad Anderson Silva won, but it doesn't leave really leave an option @ 185.  Who's left @ 185?  I have a short list of fighters who I think are ready to take the next step.

Alan Belcher

Belcher is a rising star, he's young (28), crafty, and has a horrible tattoo on his arm.

Chris Weidman
The kid's 9-0 and has defeated Tom Lawlor, Demian Maia and recently beat Mark Munoz.  For those who didn't see Weidman KTFO Mark Munoz, try to find it.  Munoz can't seem to catch a break.

Hector Lombard - You might have never heard of him
Hector Lombard is 31-2 but has mostly been crushing can's all around the world, including Bellator.  He was offered a contract a few years ago for the UFC, but couldn't secure a Visa (he's from Cuba) and then signed with Bellator a year later.  He was the guy they said "Will beat Anderson for the belt".  Who knows if he'll get past Tim Boetsch?

Michael Bisping.
Get past Brian Stann in September, and beat 1 of the 3 above = Title Shot.  He took Chael Sonnen to a 3 round decision and won 1 of the rounds.

After this list it gets tough because everyone who recently fought just had their stock drop.
Munoz & Chael are back @ the bottom again.  I can't see Chael cutting to 185 anymore (he cuts from 245) plus the WWE offered him a contract and Munoz always chokes when it comes to title shots (Okami, now Weidman).

Strikeforce
Like a majority of the time, Strikeforce sucked.  But there was 1 good fight on the card.  Marquardt vs Woodley.  In the 4th round this is how it ended.

Marquardt dropped down to 170 and became the new Welterweight Champion of Strikeforce.  Next up, no new challengers.

Other MMA News.
Anthony Johnson will be fighting @ 205.
After years of dropping close to 70 pounds to fight @ 170, Anthony Johnson has decided to start fighting @ 205.  The picture below is from when he was going to fight Vitor Belfot @ 185.
"That cake looks delicious"
Honestly if he misses weight, then this will be my reaction.

TUF:  Carwin vs Big Country.
This should be a great season.  It won't be live anymore and I think they are switching it to a different night because of ratings.  Carwin is brining in Pat Barry as one of his coaches while Big Country is bringing in JDS.
I have no idea who would win this fight right now but they both have had similar opponents.  JDS has fought these both (both going to decision) but Big Country absorbed less damage in his fight while Carwin looked an absolute mess.

These 2 have also fought Frank Mir.
Even though it was reported that Big Country had the flu during his fight with Mir, Carwin completely annihilated Mir and knocked him out in the 1st.  I mean not everyone ko's Mir in the 1st right?

friday meme: Y U NO guy

About

“Y U NO” Guy (also known as “Y U No [X]?”) is an image macro series using SMS shorthands and carefree grammar as a way to bring someone’s attention on a particular subject or issue. The unique facial expression worn by stick-figure character is believed to have been traced from the Japanese sci-fi manga / anime series Gantz.[1]

Origin

The character’s facial expression, full of frustration and rage, can be found in Gantz’ Chapter 55: Naked King (裸の王様), originally released in February 2002 and the English translation in June 2009. Click on the image for the full-sized scan:

Original Instance

However, the original instance with the “Y U NO” phrasal template was first posted via LOLTumblrWallpapers, which gained over 10,000 reblogs & likes on Tumblr.[2] Set to a beige/light brownish background with the Gantz character placed in center, the image macro read: “I TXT U, Y U NO TXT BAK!?”

had to make this one myself

So Amazing....So Amazing
I'm going to start off by saying that UFC 146 was great.  From Big Country's over hand right of doom, to Frank Mir thinking he was so amazing....so amazing....so amazing and then getting his ass beat made me realize that an all heavyweight card wasn't a bad idea.  I honestly thought that 4 out of 5 of those fights would have went to a decision, with all the fighters gassing out by the 2nd.  Even the prelims (except for Mayhem vs CB) were great.

JDS is a beast.  JDS right now is the Best in the World @ Heavyweight.  No one knows who is next for JDS but the rumor mill is saying Cain Velasquez.  Even though JDS tko'ed him in the 1st.....I can see JDS TKOing him in the 2nd if they were to have a rematch right now.  I'm saying hold off on that rematch, and bring in another contender.  A ton of internet fans want to see Mark Hunt vs JDS but Hunt will need to beat someone like Cain to get that match.  Overeem is going to be out for a while and it's too early for Big Country to get a title shot / rematch against JDS, so have Hunt vs Cain for a title eliminator or Big Country vs Cain.  Any one of those fights would be good and it will give the fans a fight they would like to see @ Heavyweight.

Derailing a Hype Train

After Nate Diaz, Edson Barboza was my pick to be next in line for a title shot.  He was originally supposed to face Evan Dunham but Dunham dropped out of UFC 146 due to injury.  So the UFC called up Jamie Varner.....and this is what happened.

Deep down I knew this was going to happen.  I even said it before the fight, "Never sleep on Jamie Varner".  He was a former WEC champion.  He's beaten a ton of guys including Donald Cerrone, and was beating Ben Henderson until he got caught in a guillotine choke.  I'm hoping they give him another top 5 opponent pretty soon, and I hope the UFC allows him to bring back some of his awesome post fight celebrations.

Arianny arrested for Domestic Violence
Yes.  The Beautiful Arianny was arrested for kicking her boyfriend in the nose, and yes he called the cops on her.  What a gay.  But what kills me is that this is her boyfriend........

I know what you're saying...."Are you serious, bro?"  Maybe he's got money....I'm not sure.

Now lets take a look @ Arianny's mugshot.
"Would Smash like the Hulk"
Good news is that Dana White said "He's & the UFC are 100% right behind her in this case".  Insert Joke here.
